BOAT RACE OF KERALA (VALLOMKALI)

The topography of Kerala is unique than any other Indian states. It is blessed with lot of rivers, lakes and extended coastal backwater areas. The Monsoon which starts its down pouring from early June and extends through August. The very heavy rain lashes during most of other months of the year except March and April keeps the greenery of Kerela and its water reserves as the most enchanting state.

I designed the background picture of this page to give the viewers a feeling of rain and its influence in the life of Malayalees (native Malayalam speakers- Keralites)

The watersheds of Kerala gave birth to the traditionally handed over enthusiasm to Malayalees for conducting the "Vollemkali" (Boat Race) year after year. But nevertheless to say, Keralites never tried to develop their skill in other realms of water sports irrespective of their blessed water reserves.

To a tourist visiting Kerala, boathouses surly provides a deferent kind of perceptive feeling which never can find any other place on earth. The so-called boathouses are equipped/furnished with modern facilities to the satisfaction of the visitor.

Please have a look at the following photos of Boathouses and pictures of various events of Vollomkali etc.
